About Montessori
The Montessori method of education is a technique of early childhood education that emphasizes the development of natural interests and activities rather than the use of traditional teaching methods. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, developed it. It promotes freedom and regards children as naturally curious about learning and capable of initiating learning in a well-prepared and supportive learning environment. Some traditional measures of achievement, such as grades and tests, are discouraged. Montessori developed her views through scientific research with her students in the early 1900s; the method has since been adopted in public and private schools all over the world.
